The Life and Times of Signet Signs

Looking at the photo above of the Backwell, Nailsea and District Agricultural Co-Operative Society it can be hard to believe that the building is now home to Signet Signs Limited! With this sense of nostalgia in us, we thought it would be a good idea to give all our lovely customers a little insight into how Signet Signs Limited came to be.

It’s been 44 years since Roger Harris began producing siteboards in 1971, and the company has certainly grown since then! Going from a one man band to a team of nine, it’s not just the team that has grown but the jobs as well! ‘A day in the life of’ in 2015 certainly feels a far cry away from the early days in the 70s…

In the beginning, Roger would get the siteboards printed by another company and then drive them down to Bristol Temple Meads railway himself so that they could be delivered. As demand increased and the work kept on coming Signet Signs Limited was formed, with the siteboards then being created in-house rather than being sent for manufacture elsewhere.

Nowadays, it’s not just our siteboards that are being produced in-house! Our signage catalogue covers a vast range of options, including bespoke design with one of our talented graphic designers. As we have increased over the years, we’ve been able to take on some really big projects for companies such as Safeway, Unigate and EC Harris, which has been really exciting to see take off.

When Roger stepped down, his son-in-law Mike Rawlings took hold of the Signet reins, and since then the expansion has just kept growing. The money being reinvested back into the company for the past 10 years has allowed for development such as in-house wide format digital printing, laser cutting and engraving – all of which means we can provide top quality, beautiful signage for our clients.

Come find us in our office at 45 West Town Road, Backwell, Bristol, BS48 3HG – maybe you’ll be able to see the similarities between our old ‘office’ and our present one!
